Becca's Deluxe Sugar
Cookies;
1 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup confection { powder } sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tarter
1/2 cup sugar { sprinkle sugar on cookies if you aren't going to use icing
}
In a large bowl, cream
together butter, confection sugar, egg, vanilla & almond beat till light
and fluffy. Stir together dry ingredients; blend into creamed mixture.
Divide dough in half and cover with plastic wrap, { To make round cookies
roll dough into a log role; chill; cut 3/16 inch thickness with a string
or dental floss. } chill for 2 to 3 hours.
On a lightly floured
surface, roll to 3/16 inch thickness { keep second half of dough
chilled till ready to roll }. Cut in desired shapes with cookie cutters.
Place on a greased cookie sheet { If you're not going to use icing
sprinkle cookies with granulated sugar }.
Bake at 375°
for 7 to 8 minutes. Cool slightly; remove from sheet. Let cool completely
before icing. Makes 5 dozen, 2 to 2 1/2 inch cookies.
Cookie Icing;
1 T butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 ˝ cups confectioners sugar
3 T's milk
2 drops any color food coloring to the desired shade
In a small bowl, beat the butter, 1
tsp. vanilla and confectioners' sugar until smooth. Mix in the milk one T. at a time until a good spreading consistency is reached. Stir in food coloring to desired
shade, { divide in bowls for more the one color }.
Use cake
decorating tips to out line the cookie and draw faces on them. Let
stand until icing is dry. Store cookies in a single layer in an zip lock
bags. enough icing for 3 to 4 dozen cookies.
